 The Norris F5 Handmade Mandolins
  • Constructed right here in our shop, these mandolins are made from only the finest materials.  The top is solid European Spruce.  Back, sides, and neck are solid Highly Flamed Maple.  Fingerboard and peghead overlay are ebony with pearl inlay.  Bridge is adjustable ebony.  Tuning machines are Schaller.  Hardware is gold or nickel plated.  Fretboard is "scooped" to avoid "pick click".
  • We "tap tune" each part of the mandolin during the construction process. The top, back, tone bars and final assembly must be tuned using a hi-tech strobe tuner.  This is a tedious process, but we feel it is necessary to insure the mandolin will have optimal volume and "woody" tone.  The wood is tapped with a special felt covered hammer.  As this is done, the wood emits a musical note that can only be detected by a strobe tuner.  Each part of the mandolin must be carved and sanded until the desired note is obtained.
  • We finish the mandolins with 12 coats of nitrocellulose laquer.  This gives the instruments a high gloss, but is not too thick to effect the tone and volume. Our mandolins are guaranteed for life and come with a deluxe hardshell case.
